Overweight people should pay 'fat tax' to cover healthcare costs, German MP says
Posted by admin / Under Overweight
Germany's health system is funded by a series of mandatory health insurance funds, all of which are reporting serious deficits as the system is overused. Recently the German Teachers' Association recommended weighing children in class each day and reporting the seriously overweight to social services, who would have the power to remove them to clinics. "The question must be admitted whether the immense costs that, for example, arise from excessive consumption of food, can be permanently paid out of the consolidated health system," said Marco Wanderwitz, the conservative MP for the state of Saxony. Bullies Target Obese Kids
Posted by admin / Under Overweight
For kids, a few extra pounds may invite trouble from the schoolyard bully. New research suggests that just being overweight increases the risk of being bullied. And factors that usually play a role in the risk of being bullied, such as gender, race and family income levels, don't seem to matter if you're overweight -- being overweight or obese trumps all those other factors when it comes to aggressive behavior from other children. Overweight Older People Live Longer
Posted by admin / Under Overweight
People who carry a few extra pounds after age 70 tend to live longer than people who donât, new research finds. Overweight older adults who took part in the Australian study had a clear survival advantage over those who were normal weight, underweight, or obese. The findings suggest that the widely accepted body mass index (BMI) weight guidelines may not be particularly useful after age 70, lead researcher Leon Flicker, PhD, of the University of Western Australia tells WebMD. Last summer, researchers in Canada reported the same findings after analyzing data from more than 11,000 adults followed for more than...

There's been much debate about how to handle overweight passengers on flights. A Flight Global blog got a hold of the photo, which they say the attendant took to "show her manager what was happening on the aircraft and why she was unhappy about it. Seems the guy paid for only one seat and the gate staff let him...
